Wine

@Malaka Spice
Not a full house this time around but a unanimous “Thumbs Up” for Khaled Hosseini.    Verdict was given prior to the delicious Kiwi Daquiris, so little contribution from the pitcher of “yummy”.

July 2013

Took a small detour from our usual location and warmed up to a nice evening at Darios.  It was a full house, the conversation flowed as did the wine.  We had 2 books to review and we could not have asked for a better day to review them.  Cheers!

We have a pitcher perfect setup for our bookclub meetings….! We meet at Malaka Spice  Pune’s finest south east Asian eatery, that has become quite a favorite with our book club members.

We are surprised with a pitcher of cocktails by Chef Cheeru for every meeting.  The goal is to serve cocktails that represent the mood of the book.

The Measure of a Man ~ A Spiritual Memoir by  Sidney Poitier.

Utpala, Shabnam, Lisa, Ash and Cheeru.

We met on the 17th of June and a pitcher of red ginger set the tone for the evening….!!! It was    nice  and chill and with a wonderful bite to it, not just of vodka, but of fresh aromatic ginger… We all liked it very  much…
Starters were smoked duck top hats, singapore chilli prawns and sole fish satays and pumpkin chips. Sole fish satays are almost de riguer… and as usual  were  Y U M MY! The pumpkin chips were a new try and were  very  very good…

We had a simple, but very satisfying main course of vermicelli noodles and spicy chicken,  finishing  the meal with some refresshing spice reducing sorbets…coffee and lemon….

Half of a Yellow Sun

This was not easy or light reading…I think it left all of us a little pensive….

Utpala Shabnam and I picked cool, cool watermelon as the flavour of the evening….The three of  us shared  a pitcher of a really light and refreshing watermelon martini’s, garnished with  chunks of chilled and firm watermelons and kafir lime leaves… Pitcher Perfect ….!!!

It was too hot to eat a full meal, so we had the delicious sole fish satay’s and grilled prawns,        followed by a delicate radish soup…Dessert was a yummy, crumbly warm apple-pie with ice  cream…. UMM…!!!

For The Palace Of Illusions, the mood was Ruby Red….! The pitcher of Cherry Ishque…the color and flavor were very appropriate to the mood at the table.  Ruby-red and not too sweet, representative of the passionate discussions that followed centering around the  ‘not so sweet’ character of Draupadi….!
